We had a wonderful day between our Visitors from the Eastern Branch, Limerick Quilt shop and Frances doing a wonderful Demonstration of Mary’s Triangle technique!
As you can see from the photos the Ladies brought an amazing selection for to show us. There was ooh an ahh all round and amazingly passed around for further inspection!
The Ladies also left us with some samples for us to copy and use in our Library.
A big Thank You to all who bought so much food and made the day so enjoyable. Also apologies for my green hat turning up in so many photos! It was the closest meeting to St. Patrick’s Day so I decided to do my bit😂.
We did change the Agenda of our meeting a bit today and had a break after our visitors Show and Tell for Lunch. I think most still made it back in time for the Rugby Match!
We then had our own Show and Tell and a Fantastic display of work displayed as usual.
As most of you know, myself and five other Ladies are heading to Missouri on the 19th and are just bursting with excitement! We will have loads of news and photos hopefully for our next meeting which will be April 14th which is also our AGM. See you there!
Spring has arrived and I cleaned as I painted!! Of course one room done and showed up the next 😀.
We had the pleasure of having Joke Buurmsa as our Speaker on the day and once we sorted our technical difficulties we were in awe and inspired by Joke and her collection of beautiful work. The detail and precision that went into her Quilts was fantastic to see up close.
She also did a fantastic workshop on Sunday which everyone who attended was delighted with. It was her tree canopy appliqué done in free Quilting or more of a pieced Block.
We then had updates from the Executive and the Fantastic Outreach meeting from Joanna.
Our Show and Tell was next and as always, we were delighted with the turnout of work. Our usual raffle and a big thank you to Moya for the shop and all who helped out on the day.
See you at our next meeting which will be Saturday 10th of March at the Sacred Heart Church Hall from 10am until 1pm.
Limerick Quilt Centre will be the shop and we hope to have a visiting Branch also, ( to be confirmed).
Well we went all out for our Christmas Meeting and enjoyed it immensely!
We had Mulled Wine ( non alcoholic of course!), loads of goodies as usual, door prizes and Lucky dip. A big thank you to all that provided the fantastic selection of food! One of these months I must take a picture of the goodies as I’m sure that’s half the reason for such good attendance!!
Patricia O Brien won the mini hamper for her Block of the Month entry. We had to use at least four of the blocks given by Mary Hynes and again a big thank you to her for her time and all her work put into the Demonstrations every Month.
Joanna Harrington did a Demonstration on Drunkards Path this Month and our shop was Patchwork Plus with Moya.
Ann Prendergast did a fantastic Quiz again this year which was won by Frances, Mary, Ann and Catherine, well done Ladies and hopefully we will see the results from the stash of material ye won!
I would like to thank everyone who gave so generously to our Charity tickets for Mary Mount, to the point that Mary Palmer sold all the raffle tickets on the morning. I hope we have a few winners, the draw is taking place at the Cork Craft and Design in Douglas Woollen Mills Thursday 14th at 6.30. All welcome.
I would like to thank all who helped out on the day and indeed the last few months from boiling the kettles, to stacking the chairs after the meeting and all in between! You don’t have to be on the committee to be appreciated and a big Thank you to everyone who turns up on the day as without you coming out and us enjoying your company there would be no meeting! Regards, Assumpta.
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone and all the very best for 2018, May it be a happy and healthy year.
From: Assumpta, Frances, Siobhan, Joanna, Áine and Mary.
The 14th of October meeting was our open meeting which meant that anyone who wanted to call in and see what we do, could come in for free and enjoy the Demonstrations, Chat and the wonderful show and tell!
We also had John O’Donnell from Waterford and he serviced the sewing machines while Ladies browsed the shop which was Patchwork Plus with Moya.
Our Demonstration Ladies were:
Mary Hynes doing the Block of the Month which included a star block and a Presents Block. She had handouts for these and will have a selection of all handouts at our next meeting ( November 18th now as Knitting and Stitching Show the second Saturday). We will be giving a ‘Viewers Choice’ prize in December for at least 4 of the 6 blocks done!
Mary O’Regan did a Demonstration on her Overlocker or Serging. She was showing how to finish off the material edges and her work with the Days for Girls.
We also had Frances McCarthy showing us an Appliqué technique and her Dying work.
We were so lucky to have Penny Barnes with us on the day as she was visiting Nicki Foley in Kerry and doing a workshop in Aghada with Moya. She gave a wonderful talk and show and tell on her Quilting Journey. She donated two books to our Library that has featured her beautiful work! She also showed us the Quilt that the workshop was about and those who had signed up had a wonderful day in Aghada just before Ophelia hit!! I hope everyone got over it safe and sound.
We then had our own show and tell which as always was so interesting and awe inspiring. We finished with our raffle and we would like to thank all that contributed… prizes, helping hand, the Library Ladies and all who brought Goodies!!
Happy Halloween to everyone!
See you on the 18th of November at 10 in the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Victoria Cross.
The Executive are Looking for Quilts for Knitting and Stitching show, anyone interested in doing so please go to:
The National Executive Meeting was held in the Fabulous setting of the Kingsley Hotel on Saturday 7th October 2017 and started promptly at 11am. Ruth Burke was chair and did a fantastic Job as always. There was a good attendance at the meeting and all ran smoothly.
Janice Gunner was our guest speaker and she gave a wonderful talk and show and tell on .. Japan – A Textile Journey. It was such a pleasure to have someone talk about her subject with such passion and make it interesting for everyone else also. What a treat to be able to touch and some of us got to try on kimonos she had with her!
Janice also ran a workshop on the Sunday 8th on ‘Liberating Log Cabin ‘. 12 Ladies attended and had a fantastic time. It was fun and well run by Janice. We hope to see all finished results soon?! Some are making cushion covers and others are hoping to expand to at least lap Quilts! She generously gave us some signed books to raffle also.
Congratulations to Linda Crowley on winning the James Lawlor Trophy for her Binary Challenge for the Second year in a row. Well done to all that entered as it was fantastic to see such difference in color schemes.
We had two fabric shops, Patchwork Plus and Lismore Quilts. John O’Donnell also had an array of Machines on display and took names for his servicing at our open meeting next Saturday 14th of October at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. There are still places and it will be a first come first served basis but I’m sure John will accommodate all.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ruth and executive committee for being available to us as we went forward organizing the AGM and for all the positive feedback from the other branches. It was certainly due to Erin Case for all her work done before she left and to a fantastic committee on hand and helpers who jumped on board and made everything run smoothly and everyone feel at home.
See you all hopefully at the open meeting Saturday 14th at 10am!
Penny Barnes is our guest speaker, BOM, and other Demos, usual raffle and friendly welcome!
All very Welcome and don’t forget your machines for service .
