October Meeting recap.

The 14th of October meeting was our open meeting which meant that anyone who wanted to call in and see what we do, could come in for free and enjoy the Demonstrations, Chat and the wonderful show and tell!

We also had John O’Donnell from Waterford and he serviced the sewing machines while Ladies browsed the shop which was Patchwork Plus with Moya.

Our Demonstration Ladies were:

Mary Hynes doing the Block of the Month which included a star block and a Presents Block. She had handouts for these and will have a selection of all handouts at our next meeting ( November 18th now as Knitting and Stitching Show the second Saturday). We will be giving a ‘Viewers Choice’ prize in December for at least 4 of the 6 blocks done!

Mary O’Regan did a Demonstration on her Overlocker or Serging. She was showing how to finish off the material edges and her work with the Days for Girls.

We also had Frances McCarthy showing us an Appliqué technique and her Dying work.

We were so lucky to have Penny Barnes with us on the day as she was visiting Nicki Foley in Kerry and doing a workshop in Aghada with Moya. She gave a wonderful talk and show and tell on her Quilting Journey. She donated two books to our Library that has featured her beautiful work! She also showed us the Quilt that the workshop was about and those who had signed up had a wonderful day in Aghada just before Ophelia hit!!  I hope everyone got over it safe and sound.

We then had our own show and tell which as always was so interesting and awe inspiring. We finished with our raffle and we would like to thank all that contributed… prizes, helping hand, the Library Ladies and all who brought Goodies!!

Happy Halloween to everyone!

See you on the 18th of November at 10 in the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Victoria Cross.

The Executive are Looking for Quilts for Knitting and Stitching show, anyone interested in doing so please go to:

AGM Meeting update

The National Executive Meeting was held in the Fabulous setting of the Kingsley Hotel on Saturday 7th October 2017 and started promptly at 11am. Ruth Burke was chair and did a fantastic Job as always. There was a good attendance at the meeting and all ran smoothly.

Janice Gunner was our guest speaker and she gave a wonderful talk and show and tell on .. Japan – A Textile Journey. It was such a pleasure to have someone talk about her subject with such passion and make it interesting for everyone else also. What a treat to be able to touch and some of us got to try on kimonos she had with her!

Janice also ran a workshop on the Sunday 8th on ‘Liberating Log Cabin ‘. 12 Ladies attended and had a fantastic time. It was fun and well run by Janice. We hope to see all finished results soon?! Some are making cushion covers and others are hoping to expand to at least lap Quilts! She generously gave us some signed books to raffle also.

Congratulations to Linda Crowley on winning the James Lawlor Trophy for her Binary Challenge for the Second year in a row. Well done to all that entered as it was fantastic to see such difference in color schemes.

We had two fabric shops, Patchwork Plus and Lismore Quilts. John O’Donnell also had an array of Machines on display and took names for his servicing at our open meeting next Saturday 14th of October at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. There are still places and it will be a first come first served basis but I’m sure John will accommodate all.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ruth and executive committee for being available to us as we went forward organizing the AGM and for all the positive feedback from the other branches. It was certainly due to Erin Case for all her work done before she left and to a fantastic committee on hand and helpers who jumped on board and made everything run smoothly and everyone feel at home.

See you all hopefully at the open meeting Saturday 14th at 10am!

Penny Barnes is our guest speaker, BOM, and other Demos, usual raffle and friendly welcome!

All very Welcome and don’t forget your machines for service .
