February 2018 Meeting

Choose from two different quilts about ‘tree canopy’. Both quilts are each 18 inch square.

Tree Canopy 1: This is an abstract idea of a tree canopy. The background is pieced, and on top of it treas are appliqued. One should be able to piece fairly quickly the background, and then fuse/ applique the trees on top of it.

Tree Canopy 2: This is a more realistic impression of a tree canopy. The foliage is made of a large number of pieces of fabric, no  bondaweb, the trees are fused on top of the foliage. If one is familiar with free-motion quilting, then you do just that. If one is not familiar with free-motion quilting, then some netting fabric will be needed, and then it can be quilted using the ‘normal’ foot

 

January 2018 Meeting recap

It was great to see such a good crowd at our first meeting after the Christmas. No one flooded hopefully!
Our shop was Appletree with Sinead and a wonderful selection of Materials and notions.

Soibhan on the door, Mai and Paddie at the Library and Mairead in the Kitchen! Thanks again Ladies.

We had Ailbhe giving a Demo on the Twister pattern and how to make your own template. Donations for the pattern went to Charity.

We also had  one of our own members, Heidi Wischniewski give a fantastic talk on her Appliqué pictures and her ‘only Quilting 5 Years’ Journey! She was so nervous about doing the talk and I’m sure she will get over the sleepless nights knowing how much everyone enjoyed her talk, funny antidotes and looking at her fabulous work.

In fact we have been asked by so many people to have her do a workshop that we have persuaded her and delighted to announce that there will be a sign up sheet and deposit taken at our June 9th meeting for those interested and the workshop will be after our September meeting.

We had our Show and Tell and delighted there was plenty of people sewing over the Christmas, unlike myself!!

Our next meeting will be on February 10th.
