While I’ve been put the finishing touches on August 2016’s block, I’ve also spent some time over the summer updating our YouTube Channel to include all of the slideshows from our 2015 Block of the Month.
Be sure you take a moment to subscribe to the channel to be notified when we post a new video!
On Sunday, July 17th, I had the pleasure of attending the Irish Patchwork Society National Exhibition, “Evolution.”
What an amazing exhibition!

Two exhibitions were running in the space when I visited. One was “Distance,” a collection of quilts from Austria, Latvia and Ireland.
Below is a slideshow of all of the quilts in this part of the exhibition:

Congratulations to all those who participated. I hope you had the chance to see the quilts in person, the photographs did not do the exhibition justice!
Congratulations to all of the Southern Branch members who participated as well!
Cathy Davis (left) with her quilt, “Rainbow Rings”Congratulations are in order for Southern Branch member Cathy Davis, whose quilt was selected to represent Ireland in the Diversity Gallery in the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham this August!
Here are some more detailed photographs of her amazing quilt:
It’s made up of three different units. A Half Square Triangle unit, a Diamond in a Square unit and Flying Geese units.
What makes this block different, is that the flying geese units are made by using three different fabrics, rather than the traditional two.
In order to help keep you organised, the handout directions include a colouring page to help you make the correct flying geese units and the correct diamond in a square unit.
