  • There will be a need for committee members in April, as over half of the current committee will have to step down.
  • Olivia O’Sullivan is now on the national committee, there is a need for a new branch representative to the national committee.  Please let Jane know if you’re interested.
  • In January we’ll be introducing a beginners table, where members new to quilting can learn the basics.  We’re also planning some more YouTube videos to include with this focus!

Erin then did a recap of the past and current block of the month.

This month’s block is the Flying Dutchman!

Everyone had a fantastic time with the Table Quiz!  Thank you Ann for your hard work in creating it!

On a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone at the meeting for being patient with my boys (and the little bit of noise they created).  We had a last minute issue with lack of childcare, and I had to bring my toddler twin boys to the meeting.  I did my best to keep them occupied and quiet!

See you at our January meeting on January 9, 2016!

2015 Christmas Challenge

At our November meeting, Jane issued our 2015 Christmas Challenge!

Some fabrics were provided, but don’t worry if you weren’t able to attend the meeting!  It will be easy to participate!

Three circles were provided to members cut out of assorted Christmas themed fabrics.  Their diameters were 5 inches, 3 inches and 2 inches.  Didn’t get any fabric from the meeting?  No problem!  Just measure some of the objects around your home to use for a template.

Circles

Your challenge is to use at least two different sizes of the circles to create any sort of Christmas themed project.

Some ideas include a tree skirt, stocking, mug rug, mini quilt, large quilt, ornament and a table centrepiece.

How about a Santa ornament?

Dear Members,

November is upon us. I love this time of year; I think it’s ages until Christmas and I have loads of time to finish all of last years projects, make all the promised gifts, and make my own Christmas cards. If the last 20 years are anything to go by, very little of this will get done. But I live in hope!

We are still reeling after the wonderful Open Meeting in October. We had 72 visitors and members. Thank you again to everyone who made this possible.

Our next meeting is on SATURDAY 14th NOVEMBER 2015 at 10am.

Aine Foley  is bringing her shop from Lismore , and will give us a talk and demonstration.

We will have our usual Raffle, Show & Tell and Block of the Month.

The Christmas Challenge this year gives us plenty of chances to use our imagination.

As our meeting clashes with the Knit & Stitch show in Dublin,  we have a very small but enthusiastic committee. We would appreciate any help you can offer to help with tea and setting up etc.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday to enjoy our usual chat ,inspiration and ideas.

With Best Wishes

Jane

Class Opportunity!

Irish Quilt and Design

Double Wedding Ring

Emer Fahy

2-day Workshop

October 31st & November 1st

This beautiful old pattern is always a favourite.  It’s been around in various styles for a long time, but we will explore the wide (maybe unlimited!) possibilities of this pattern.   We will work on effects based on colour placement in the rings, the design possibilities for variations in the background, and structural variations in the rings themselves.  We will also learn how to draft your own pattern or variation in any size.  We will try a few possible techniques for stitching the pattern – and of course, we will actually make a sample set of rings!

You will have everything you need to design and make your own Double Wedding Ring project in any size and for any purpose – quilt, wall-hanging, table-runner, clothing, what ever your imagination can come up with!

Classes include Tea, Coffee, Snacks anytime, and Emer’s famous lunches.

We gather from 9.30 for tea and set-up, so that we can start at 10.00

We break at 5.00pm, but people are always welcome to stay on and sew.

Workshop €190
