August Block of the Month

August has finally arrived!

We’ve been hard at work over the last few weeks preparing the materials for the block for you!

Introducing August’s Block, the Half Rectangle Triangle Star!

This is our first opportunity to work work templates.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  A small square has been drawn next to the Half Rectangle Triangle (HRT).  When you print out your template, be sure that your square measures 1 inch square!  This will ensure your Half Rectangle Triangles will end up the correct size.  Be sure to cut the bevels of the template.  Cutting the bevels into your half rectangle triangles will make sewing together the triangles easier.

If you’re new to working with Half Rectangle Triangles, do not fear, we’ve created a video tutorial for you!

July Blog Silence

We’ve been pretty quiet on the blog this month, for good reason!  On Saturday, August 1st, we’ll be debuting the August Block of the Month!  This month’s materials includes not only the step by step directions via a handout, but also a video tutorial that will be posted to YouTube!

We’re also brainstorming for more video tutorials, so if you have any requests, please leave a comment on the blog!

February’s block materials will also be posted to the website, as our six month waiting period will be over!

Summer Challenge Update

How are you doing with your summer challenge?  I’m brainstorming my layout and trying to figure out how to paper piece my name so it’s about 4 inches across.

June Block of the Month

Our June Block of the Month is the X – Plus block!  Using skills we learned in last month’s block, we create the “X” portion of the block.  Perfect for using scraps you have in your scrap bin.  Directions for this block will be uploaded to our site in December.

June Meeting Recap

Well, we’ve had our last meeting for the summer!  I hope everyone had an amazing time at the meeting.  Wasn’t Irene MacWilliam’s talk such an inspiration?

We started the meeting announcing the Summer Challenge:  Nametags!  We’d love to be welcoming to new members and to be able to know everyone’s names!

We also passed out a special “Southern Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society” tag to include on your nametag.  If you weren’t able to get to the meeting and would like to participate, please send an email to corkips AT gmail DOT com.  From there, Erin will give you an address to send a self addressed stamped envelope so you can be sent a tag.

We’ll be continuing this project over the summer, posting the instructions here on the blog.  Be on the lookout in the beginning of July and August.

Dear members,

June has finally arrived, and we are coming up to the last meeting before the summer break. Not that we intend to let you rest! We have an exciting summer challenge for you, with a twist!
The B O M will continue oIMG_4948ver the summer and all instructions will be on Facebook and the blog.

This is THE Irene MacWilliams  weekend we have all been so looking forward to all year.

She will be speaking at our meeting on Saturday morning . There is a workshop in the afternoon, and a whole day workshop on Sunday. All places are filled , but everyone will get a chance to meet her on Saturday.

Our shop will be  Moya , with Patchwork Plus,

There will be the usual raffle

Erin will be demonstrating Block of the Month number 5.

The summer challenge will be launched

Tea & coffee will be provided, but once again, cakes and biscuits depend on your  generosity.

We couldn’t have a meeting without ” show & tell” please bring your gems and leave them at the door with the committee.

As you can see – a fun filled meeting really not to be missed, so please be prompt,

 10 AM ON SATURDAY 13th JUNE 2015

DEADLINE EXTENDED for Showing at River of Dreams Exhibition

The 10th Annual River of Dreams exhibition will run from the 19th of June through the 26th of June and will be held in the Limerick School of Art & Design Gallery.  The deadline for quilts has been moved from Friday May 29th to the 2nd of June to allow for the Bank Holiday.  If you have a quilt you wish to enter in the exhibition, please download the River of Dreams entry form.
