This months meeting was our annual open meeting and was a roaring success. Returning members, new members and curious non-members joined together to enjoy a morning of all things quilt related.
Members took part in a fabric swap where unwanted fabric could be surrendered to a new home and more desirable selections adopted by new owners. There was also a stall of fabric, patterns and tools which were being sold as part of a collection from a quilter who had sadly passed away. A considerable amount of money was raised for local charities.
As the flow of people moved around the room with their tea and coffee and lovely cakes they were also able to stop and learn new techniques from members demonstration stands. Tina was showing an lovely foundation paper piecing Christmas block, Mary was making very cute pyramid purses and Eilís was demonstrating variations of four patches including Double and disappearing four patch weaves.
This months show and tell was very extensive, with a huge range of items on display. Some of the highlights included Assumpta, Siobhan, Catherine and Sheila who began with a selection of items they made at a recent felting workshop, including a table lamp cover and mittens. Moya showed her quilt which was a labour of love made with traditional American flour sacks which she has been collecting for a number of years. Christine brought along a vintage log cabin quilt made from satin scraps and Shelia showed several quilts made for charity.
Next months meeting will take place on 11th November where our annual machine servicing will take place. If you would like your machine serviced and you have not already signed up please contact Cathy Davis cathydavis@iol.ie to be added to the list. We will also host a sit and sew session in the afternoon following the meeting. All members are welcome to bring along their projects for a few hours of sewing and chat.
